Subject: Important Changes to the CNJC Eagle Process - effective immediately

All,

After several discussions this morning with BSA National Eagle Services and Bob Clark, CNJC Advancement Adviser, the following changes regarding the CNJC Eagle Scout Guide and the Eagle documentation requirements will take effect immediately across all Districts.

  1. The "CNJC Eagle Scout Guide" will be taken out of circulation. The guide will be removed from the Council website and should be removed from all District websites as soon as possible.

The new "Guide to Advancement" in conjunction with the new Eagle Leadership Service project workbook (both 2011 printings) has made the "CNJC Eagle Scout Guide" obsolete. Moving forward, the "Guide to Advancement" and the Eagle Leadership Service Project workbook will be the sole references used by the Council Advancement Committee and all Districts to administer the Eagle Scout program.

  2. The "requirement" or "administrative request" that a Scout obtain separate project sponsor letters of approval and completion of their project will cease immediately.

The signature pages in the new Eagle Leadership Service Project requires the Project Beneficiary to sign the Proposal and the Final Plan sections. By obtaining their approval signature, the sponsor is agreeing to the work to be accomplished by the Scout as outlined in his project plan.

For Eagle projects that are in progress, where either of these letters have already been collected, please remove them from the final Eagle package turned into the Council registrar, Dottie Rosenbaum or her designee, after the Eagle Board of Review.

Please cascade these important changes throughout the units in your District and your District Committees.

Regards,

Hal Cayce W. Cary
